About the Project
In 2014, the City of East Lansing and East Lansing Rotary Club partnered for the Playground in the Park “Re-Imagined” project. The idea behind the project was to bring a new playground to the park designed by the community, built by the community and with funds raised by the community. In addition to involving the community in the design phase of the playground project, community members were also invited to come help build the new playground. The project was funded in part by a $300,000 Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant as well as several generous sponsorships and contributions from the community. Thanks to the grant and contributions, the community installed a new, 1.2-acre playground that features a wide variety of colorful play equipment, a poured-in-place playground surface, a rain garden, a brick entry plaza, walkways and much more.
