EAST LANSING, Mich. — Community members are advised that a pilot program will be implemented this month that will result in changes to on-street parking regulations in designated areas of some East Lansing neighborhoods.
The purpose of the pilot program is to limit on-street parking in areas where roadways are too narrow for safe, two-way vehicular travel. The regulations will also accommodate City services, such as curbside trash/recycling collection and snow plowing, as well as the travel of emergency vehicles.
The program will be implemented in two phases, with Traffic Control Order No. 478 going into effect on Monday, June 17 and Traffic Control Order No. 479 going into effect later this month (date TBA). Traffic Control Order No. 478 will eliminate on-street parking on seven streets (located throughout the City) with curb and gutter and a width less than 24 feet. Traffic Control Order No. 479 will implement a one-sided parking restriction in the portion of the Bailey Neighborhood bounded by Burcham Drive, Charles Street, Elizabeth Street, Bailey Street, Ann Street and Gunson Street.
The Traffic Control Orders, including all impacted streets, can be viewed here. Maps of the impacted areas can be viewed here and here. Signs for Traffic Control Order No. 478 have already been installed in impacted areas, but they will remain covered until June 17. Orange flags will be installed on the signs to alert residents to the change.
The East Lansing City Council unanimously approved this pilot program at its meeting on April 9.
