EAST LANSING, Mich. — Community members are invited to give back this holiday season by participating in downtown East Lansing’s Toys for Tots campaign.
Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve, which serves to distribute toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for the holidays.
Community members can donate new, unwrapped toys at a number of participating downtown East Lansing businesses through Dec. 12. A list of participating businesses can be found here: https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/1920/Toys-for-Tots. Food items and toys that look like realistic weapons will not be accepted.
As a part of the Toys for Tots campaign, a significant donation of toys has been made by The Landmark on Grand River, Newman Lofts, The Christman Company and the MSU Federal Credit Union. These groups will also be sponsoring a special activity during the 2018 Winter Glow event, taking place on Saturday, Dec. 1. The first 400 people that bring a new, unwrapped toy donation to the East Lansing Marriott lobby, 300 M.A.C. Ave., on the day of the event will receive a free photo with Santa.
Photos with Santa will be taking place in the lobby of the Marriott from 3-6 p.m. and a special ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. (adjacent location in the lobby) to honor those involved with the Toys for Tots campaign. East Lansing Mayor Mark Meadows will be making a few remarks and members of the media and community are invited to attend.
