EAST LANSING, Mich. — The City of East Lansing’s Northern Tail Dog Park, 6400 Abbot Road, is scheduled to re-open to the public this Friday, June 15.
For the time being, community members are asked to please enter the park from the north entrance (trail side). Signs will be in place directing community members to that entrance. This will help to reduce wear and tear on the side of the park where the grass is still growing.
In fall 2017, the City of East Lansing completed some fairly extensive work to improve drainage and restore the grass at the park. This was the first time since the park opened in 2008 that the City temporarily closed the facility in order to complete a renovation of this nature. In order to prevent a long-term closure like this in the future, City officials are considering temporarily closing the park when wet conditions exist and closing during the winter months, similar to other outdoor recreation venues, such as the East Lansing Family Aquatic Center, the East Lansing Softball Complex and the East Lansing Soccer Complex.
“Thank you to everyone for their patience during this extended closure,” said East Lansing Parks, Recreation & Arts Director Tim McCaffrey.
