[ARCHIVED] MLK Commission to Unveil New Portrait at the “Remembering Martin” Exhibit this Wednesday, April 11

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Members of the media and public are invited to a special unveiling of a new portrait of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the East Lansing Public Art Gallery’s “Remembering Martin” exhibit on Wednesday, April 11 at 6 p.m. The Public Art Gallery is located on the second floor of the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road.

The Commission will be unveiling a portrait of Dr. King that was created by a local graphic designer using words community members previously shared at the exhibit when asked to describe Dr. King. Following the unveiling of this new addition to the exhibit, there will be light refreshments for visitors. This unveiling will be taking place on Wednesday, April 11 in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the 1968 Civil Rights Act.

The “Remembering Martin” exhibit opened in early March in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the assassination of Dr. King. A compilation of photographs, prints and writings of Dr. King as well as historic documents from the Commission were unveiled and will continue to be on display for public viewing through May 1. The Public Art Gallery’s hours are:

Monday-Friday, 6 a.m.-6 p.m.

Saturday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

Sunday, noon-6 p.m.
