[ARCHIVED] City Launches Outreach Tools for Center City District Construction Information

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The City of East Lansing has launched a website and additional outreach tools in an effort to ensure the most current Center City District construction information is accessible to businesses, community members and downtown visitors.

Community members can visit www.EastLansingBuzz.org to find the latest information about the construction in downtown East Lansing, including available parking, a project timeline, traffic maps, project updates and more. The site also includes information on how businesses and community members can sign up to receive e-blasts and text alerts with the latest buzz on the project.

For downtown businesses, the City has developed a Downtown Construction Guide to assist business owners and employees through the construction period. The guide is available online and is also being distributed in print to downtown businesses. The City has also printed cards promoting the website and sign-up information for businesses to distribute to their customers and employees. Additionally, the City is providing $100 worth of monthly parking vouchers to each business located adjacent to the project site to distribute to their customers.

“We realize this project is going to cause some headaches and want to do what we can to provide helpful information to businesses and downtown visitors,” said East Lansing Mayor Mark Meadows. “We encourage community members to continue to support their favorite downtown businesses during the construction.”

As an extra little incentive to shop and dine downtown, five “Free Parking” meter bags sporting the EL Buzz bee mascot will be placed in random downtown East Lansing locations on a different day each week throughout the duration of the construction. If community members find the bee, they can park for free! Updates will be provided on social media each week notifying community members when the bags are out and ready to be found: www.facebook.com/cityofeastlansing or www.twitter.com/CityofEL.

Project Update: Demolition staging for the Center City District redevelopment project is expected to be completed this week. The demolition of the buildings is expected to begin on Monday, Nov. 20 and is anticipated to be completed within 30 days.
