EAST LANSING, Mich. – The East Lansing Public Library (ELPL) and East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) are once again partnering to host the City of East Lansing’s National Night Out, Touch-a-Truck event on Tuesday, Aug. 1 from 6-8 p.m. at ELPL, 950 Abbot Road.This popular annual event offers free fun for the entire family, while promoting community safety and awareness. This year’s event will feature interaction with local police officers and firefighters, a bounce house, a balloon artist, popcorn, cotton candy, bubbles, sidewalk chalk and plenty of vehicles for children to explore. Children can explore police vehicles from ELPD, a fire engine and ambulance from the East Lansing Fire Department, several vehicles from the East Lansing Department of Public Works, a CATA bus and trolley, a tow truck and more. Members of the ELPD K9 Unit will also be there to visit with young animal lovers again this year as well as members of the ELPD Bike Unit and Ingham Regional Special Response Team (SWAT).The library and parking lot will close at 5 p.m. to prepare for this all-ages community celebration. Parking for the event will be available on side streets and at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road. The event is free and open to all community members.
