[ARCHIVED] Tickets for the 32nd Annual MLK Luncheon Now Available

LANSING, Mich. — Tickets are now available for the Greater Lansing Area Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission’s 32nd Annual Luncheon. The luncheon, held each year to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will take place on Monday, Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. at The Lansing Center, 333 Michigan Ave.

Tickets can be purchased at both the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road, and Lansing City Hall’s Treasury Office, 124 W. Michigan Ave. Tickets are $40 each or $320 for a table of eight.

The theme for the 2017 luncheon is: “We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.” These words were spoken by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in St. Louis, Mo. in 1964.

This year’s program will feature keynote speaker Mrs. Myrlie Evers-Williams – the wife of slain civil rights activist Medgar Evers. Mrs. Evers-Williams is an author and activist and she served as the chair of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) from 1995-1998.

Additionally, during this year’s program, $25,000 will be awarded in scholarships and prizes will be awarded to essay contest winners.

For more information, contact the Greater Lansing Area Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission at (517) 483-7637.

The Greater Lansing Area Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission has been a staple of the mid-Michigan community since 1984. The Commission’s luncheon has become one of the largest and longest running MLK events in the Great Lakes region.
