EAST LANSING, Mich. – The East Lansing Fire Department (ELFD) responded to a fire at an East Lansing residence, 1985 Groton Way, this morning. The two occupants of the home were able to evacuate with no injuries.
The call came in to ELFD at approximately 9:07 a.m. and the fire was under control by approximately 9:30 a.m. It appears the fire began in the basement of the two-story dwelling. When crews arrived, smoke was escaping through the open windows and from the garage area. The crews were able to make entry to the home and extinguish the fire. A ventilation and extension check was also completed. Crews left the scene at approximately 11 a.m.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the ELFD fire marshal. The estimated cost of damage is unknown at this time. It appears that there is smoke damage to the entire home. The fire damage is contained to the basement and its contents. The occupants of the home have been displaced by the fire.
