EAST LANSING, Mich. – In an effort to help residents clean up smaller storm debris in their yards, the City of East Lansing will be offering an additional no-fee yard waste collection day on Monday, July 18.
Residents can place loose yard waste material (i.e. twigs, leaves, plant material, small branches) at the curb without advanced collection requests or the use of City yard waste bags or stickers. Loose yard waste must be contained in brown paper yard waste bags (no more than 40 pounds each) or rigid plastic containers (no larger than 32 gallons each). Staff cannot accept yard waste placed in plastic bags, refuse carts and/or recycling carts.
Collection of Larger Storm Debris Continues
The East Lansing Department of Public Works (DPW) is also continuing its collection of larger storm debris. Residents with larger downed branches and limbs in their yards can place them curbside as is; residents are not expected to cut limbs/branches in half or bundle them.
The City-wide curbside collection of larger storm debris will take several weeks to complete, so patience is appreciated. DPW crews will be making multiple passes through neighborhoods; please try to place larger storm debris at the curb as soon as possible.
Residents are asked not to place or rake storm debris onto sidewalks or into streets.
Residents should use caution when cleaning up their yards and may want to consider hiring a professional to clear larger branches and unstable/downed trees. It is the responsibility of residents to have unstable/downed trees removed from their private property.
Community members with questions can contact DPW during weekday office hours, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., at (517) 337-9459.
