EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing Public Library (ELPL), 950 Abbot Road, will offer its Summer Reading Program June 13-Aug. 5. The 2016 theme is “On Your Mark, Get Set...Read!”
Children, teens and adults who read and take part in fun activities as part of the program will have the opportunity to win exciting prizes all summer long. The program will also feature lots of fun, free events throughout the summer, including a sports-themed program every week.
Community members are invited to join ELPL for the program’s kick-off event on Tuesday, June 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the East Lansing High School (ELHS) Field. There will be outdoor games, activities and a demonstration by Flying Aces Pro Frisbee Team at 6:30 p.m. There will also be an opportunity to sign up for the eight-week summer reading program. Community members are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner to the event or purchase food from Grand Grillin' at the event.
In addition to the kick-off event, there will be a Family Fun Run/Walk on Aug. 6 at 9 a.m. on the ELHS Track. Coaches will be on hand for warm-ups and stretches and ELPL shoelaces will be given out.
“Whether you are a child, teen or adult – ELPL’s 2016 Summer Reading Program will keep you reading and having fun all summer long,” said ELPL Children’s Librarian Eva Weihl. “The program is especially great for children and teens looking to keep their minds and imaginations active while out of school for the summer.”
