EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) responded to an attempted car robbery in progress this morning at Domino's Pizza, 143 N. Harrison Road.
The suspect entered a delivery driver's vehicle and attempted to leave the parking lot. Another driver blocked the suspect in so he could not leave. The suspect backed up, struck the vehicle blocking him in and then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The victim then began to follow the suspect and the suspect stated that he had a gun and would shoot the victim if he continued to follow him. The victim stopped following the suspect and 911 was called.
ELPD units located the suspect on University Drive. As they attempted to take the suspect into custody, the suspect physically fought with the officers, had to be tasered and was eventually taken into custody. Two ELPD officers were injured in the arrest. Neither required hospitalization.
Further investigation revealed that the incident started several hours earlier in Midland. The suspect stole a car in Midland and traveled to Perry. Upon arrival in Perry, the suspect stole another vehicle with an elderly woman still in the car. The suspect released the woman a short time later and continued to East Lansing. The suspect then tried to steal the vehicle in the Domino's parking lot.
The vehicles stolen from Midland and Perry have both been recovered and the woman that was taken in the Perry vehicle was uninjured.
The suspect is currently in custody.
