EAST LANSING, Mich. — Community members are encouraged to save the date for the East Lansing Public Library’s (ELPL) 5th Annual Books, Bites & Bids fundraising event, taking place Friday, April 29 from 5:30-9 p.m. Due to library renovations, this year’s event will take place at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC), 819 Abbot Road.
This annual fundraiser for ELPL will feature a silent auction, heavy hors d’oeuvres by Grand Grillin’ and other local restaurants, drinks, live music by Eric Parr and the Now Know Quintet, children’s activities and a short program at 6:30 p.m. The silent auction will include an assortment of exciting items donated by local businesses, organizations and patrons, including a variety of beautiful bags handmade by patrons and ELPL staff members. A few of the exciting items donated for the silent auction include a one-week stay at a condo at Hilton Head, an American Girl doll, a pair of Common Ground tickets, passes to the Traverse City Wine Festival and Leelanau Wine Tour, an overnight stay and breakfast for two at the East Lansing Marriott, footballs signed by Mark Dantonio and Jim Harbough, basketballs signed by Suzy Merchant and Bryn Forbes, a baseball signed by Jake Boss Jr., a one-year membership to Potter Park Zoo, a one-night stay at The English Inn and an entire Coca-Cola Holiday Village.
A tax-deductible donation of $30 per individual and $60 per couple/family is suggested for this event. Donations can be made ahead of time and a complete list of silent auction items can be viewed at www.elpl.org/books-bites-bids or by visiting the ELPL Circulation Desk, 950 Abbot Road. Donations can also be made at the door on the night of the event (cash or check only).
Proceeds of this year’s Books, Bites & Bids event will go towards the purchase of early childhood literacy technology in ELPL’s new children’s area.
“We hope to see a great community turnout for this year’s Books, Bites & Bids,” said ELPL Director Kristin Shelley. “The event provides a wonderful opportunity for community members to enjoy a fun evening out with the whole family, while showing support for their local library and early childhood literacy.”
