EAST LANSING, Mich. — East Lansing City Manager George Lahanas, with consent from East Lansing Mayor Mark Meadows, has declared a snow emergency for the City of East Lansing.
In an effort to accommodate the City’s snow plow operations, on-street parking will be prohibited from 10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25 on any street in East Lansing. City snow removal crews will be out all day Wednesday and Thursday clearing streets. The prohibition of on-street parking will allow crews to expedite clearing and prevent vehicles from being plowed-in on the street.
Additionally, East Lansing City Hall, the East Lansing 54B District Court and the East Lansing Department of Public Works will be closing early Wednesday at 3 p.m. and opening late Thursday at 10 a.m. so that non-essential personnel can travel to and from work safely. The East Lansing Public Library (ELPL) and ELPL 2.0 Maker Studio will also be closing early Wednesday at 3 p.m. and will have normal operational hours Thursday. The East Lansing Hannah Community Center will be closing early Wednesday at 5 p.m. and will be opening late Thursday at 9 a.m. Thursday's curbside refuse and recycling will be collected as regularly scheduled.
The East Lansing Planning Commission and ELPL Board of Trustees meetings scheduled for Wednesday evening are canceled. The Planning Commission’s agenda items will be placed on the agenda for the next regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, March 23.
Community members are encouraged to drive with extreme caution and to avoid driving, if possible, as road conditions deteriorate. Due to the nature of the snow (heavy and wet), residents are also encouraged to shovel their sidewalks early and often.
