EAST LANSING, Mich. — A brief program celebrating the opening of East Lansing’s pop up ice skating rink will take place on Friday, Feb. 12 at 4:30 p.m. in Valley Court Park, 280 Valley Court.
Remarks will be made by East Lansing City Councilmember Erik Altmann, East Lansing Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Chairperson Peter Dewan and East Lansing Downtown Management Board (DMB) Chairperson Jeff Kusler. Media and community members are welcome to attend.
The rink will be free and open to the general public for two weeks, Feb. 11-Feb. 25. Hours of operation will be 3-9 p.m., weather permitting. In the event of warmer weather, community members are encouraged to visit www.downtownel.com to see if the rink is closed or open for the day.
The rink is 52 feet by 72 feet and can accommodate approximately 40 to 50 skaters at one time. Community members are asked to abide by all posted rink rules and caution signs. Skate rental will not be available; community members will need to bring their own skates.
This year’s pop up rink would not be possible without the financial support, vision and work of the DDA and DMB. In addition, sponsors include: Harper’s Restaurant & Brewpub, the MSU Federal Credit Union, Weathervane Advisors, the Student Book Store, Beggar’s Banquet, Rick’s, Harrison Roadhouse, The Riv, Martin Luther Chapel, East Lansing Forward, Goombas Pizza, Charlie Kang’s, Biggby Coffee and Clery Fence Company.
