EAST LANSING, Mich. — In honor of Veterans Day, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at East Lansing’s Medal of Honor Memorial and Veterans Monument, located on the main entry grounds of the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road.

The City of East Lansing and the Lansing-based 1st Battalion, 24th Marines Charlie Company will converge at 11 a.m. to lay wreaths at the memorial in honor of all the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

The special event will also include music by bugler George Allen playing “Taps” and the EL Singers. East Lansing City Manager Robert Belleman will welcome attendees and Brigadier General Scott E. House will address those in attendance.

Among the heroes recognized by the City of East Lansing is U.S. Marine Corps Reserve 2nd Lt. Sherrod E. Skinner Jr., a Korean war hero who grew up in East Lansing. While he was a student at Harvard, Skinner entered the Marine Corps Reserve Platoon Leaders program. Skinner was killed in battle on October 26, 1952. He was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for his bravery.
