East Lansing Voters Can Begin Casting Ballots Early

Early Voting Center Hours at the East Lansing Public Library Oct. 30-Nov. 4

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing City Clerk is piloting an Early Voting Center (EVC) for this year’s election.

The EVC will be held at the East Lansing Public Library (ELPL), 950 Abbot Road. The operating hours at the ELPL will be as follows:

  • Monday, Oct. 30: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 31: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 1: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Thursday, Nov. 2: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Friday, Nov. 3: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 4: 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

The City Clerk’s Office will host an EVC Grand Opening at 9:45 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 30. Speakers will include State Rep. Penelope Tsernoglou, East Lansing Mayor Ron Bacon, Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum and East Lansing Interim City Clerk Marie Wicks. Additionally, Rep. Tsernoglou and Mayor Bacon will cast their ballots at the event.

Proposal 2022-2 established a minimum of nine days of early voting for statewide and federal elections. Although local clerks are not required to implement early voting until the 2024 presidential primary, nor are they required to host an EVC for local elections, the City of East Lansing is piloting this year’s EVC with the support of the Bureau of Elections as a trial run before the three elections to be held in 2024.

“We are so excited to be able to offer East Lansing voters an opportunity to take part in early voting,” said Interim City Clerk Marie Wicks. “We are grateful for the support of our state, county and local officials as well as the Bureau of Elections for their guidance in piloting this key requirement of Prop. 22-2.”

Polling locations are open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. on Election Day (Nov. 7). Voters can visit https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/Voter/Index to find out where they vote and view their sample ballot.
