EAST LANSING, Mich. — Community members are invited to celebrate the East Lansing Fire Department’s (ELFD) century of service at an open house to be held on Saturday, Aug. 12. The ELFD was first established in 1923.
The ELFD Open House will take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at East Lansing Fire Station #1, 1700 Abbot Road.
Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend the ELFD open house. Activities will include tours of the fire station and of emergency vehicles such as a fire truck, ambulance and rescue boat. There will be a fire hose spray station and an area for attendees to try on fire gear. The event will also include demonstrations of a rope rescue and a vehicle extrication. Attendees will be able to meet firefighters, take photos and enjoy refreshments.
Additional parking for the ELFD open house will be available courtesy of Horizon Bank in its parking lot at 1600 Abbot Road. The parking lot is located one block south of Fire Station #1.
“We are excited to celebrate the history of the East Lansing Fire Department at the 100th anniversary event and we are looking forward to welcoming the community to Fire Station #1. We have a lot of fun planned for the Open House!” East Lansing Fire Chief Dawn Carson said.
