EAST LANSING, Mich. — Community members are invited to attend the annual National Night Out, Touch-a-Truck event on Tuesday, Aug. 1 from 6-8 p.m. at the East Lansing Public Library (ELPL), 950 Abbot Road.
The ELPL and East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) are co-hosts of this family-friendly event, held each year on the first Tuesday in August. National Night Out was created in 1984 to foster a sense of shared community between neighbors and law enforcement, thereby creating safer places to live.
In East Lansing, this popular, annual event offers free fun for all ages. This year’s event will feature a variety of vehicles for children to explore as well as a chance to meet local police officers, firefighters and police K9s. Attendees will have a chance to get more information about Neighborhood Watch programs in the City and register bicycles with ELPD. The event will also include bubbles, sidewalk chalk, snacks and more!
Vehicles for the Touch-a-Truck portion of the event will include police vehicles from ELPD and the Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety; a fire engine and ambulance from the East Lansing Fire Department; several different trucks from the East Lansing Department of Public Works; ELPL’s Library on the Go mobile pop-up library; a school bus from Dean Transportation; a College HUNKS Hauling Junk & Moving® vehicle; a tow truck from H&H Mobil; and more!
Please note that ELPL, including its parking lot, will close at 5 p.m. to prepare for this year’s event. Parking will be available on side streets as well as at All Saints Episcopal Church, 800 Abbot Road and the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road.
The event is free and all community members are welcome.
