EAST LANSING, Mich. — The community is invited to attend the City of East Lansing’s PRIDE event, celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community, on Friday, June 30 in downtown East Lansing.
East Lansing PRIDE will be hosted in collaboration with the Spartan Housing Cooperative. The celebration will be held from 5-9 p.m. in Albert EL Fresco, located between Abbot Road and M.A.C. Avenue, and at Ann Street Plaza, on the northwest corner of Albert Street and M.A.C. Avenue, all in downtown East Lansing.
This year’s PRIDE celebration will feature a performance by Michigan pop artist J. Santino from 6-7 p.m. and a drag show from 7-9 p.m. There will also be local vendors on site with various PRIDE-related giveaways and community art activities.
The PRIDE celebration on June 30 caps off a week of PRIDE events in downtown East Lansing and a monthlong celebration in the City of East Lansing. From June 26-30, various businesses in downtown East Lansing will put up PRIDE flags and offer discounts to community members. Individuals who take pictures with the PRIDE flags at five participating businesses throughout the week will receive a free East Lansing PRIDE tote bag at the June 30 celebration.
“The City of East Lansing is excited to join the community in celebrating PRIDE,” said East Lansing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Director Elaine Hardy. “For over 50 years, this community has worked to protect the civil rights of gay people. In fact, we were the first city in the nation to ensure those protections then and we continue to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community now.”
