The City of East Lansing Department of Parks, Recreation & Arts will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new sports courts project at Patriarche Park, 960 Alton Road on Thursday, June 15 at 2 p.m.
The sports courts project includes 10 pickleball courts, a tennis court and basketball court in the southern section of Patriarche Park. Additional accessibility improvements include wider entrances/exits to the park and a new sidewalk from Alton Road to the sports courts.
“We are so pleased to offer these brand-new amenities for community members to enjoy. Being able to spend time outdoors, getting exercise and fresh air, and enjoying time with friends is good for the body, mind and soul,” East Lansing Parks, Recreation & Arts Director Cathy DeShambo said. “We are extremely grateful to the volunteers and sponsors who helped to bring this community-driven project to completion.”
Funding for the project included a $300,000 grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund, $50,000 from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and over $100,000 raised by the Patriarche Park Pickleball Association.
