EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing Family Aquatic Center (ELFAC), 6400 Abbot Road, will officially open for the 2023 summer season on Saturday, June 3 and remain open through Monday, Sept. 4. Regular hours are 11 a.m.-7 p.m. daily.
The ELFAC is an outdoor water park featuring a zero-grade entry, a frog slide for children under 48 inches tall, water play structures and a splash park, multiple slides including both body and tube slides, a diving board, a large sunbathing deck, a concession stand and a grassy picnic area. The ELFAC is family-oriented fun for people of all ages.
The ELFAC Aquatics Team recently received recognition from the American Red Cross for their ongoing commitment to provide a safe swim environment.
"We take patron safety very seriously and strive to provide the highest level of swimmer protection through the extensive training of our lifeguard team,” East Lansing Department of Parks, Recreation & Arts Operations Manager Jim Jennings said.
Due to local area schools resuming in mid-August and staffing shortages that will result, ELFAC will be closed on weekdays starting Monday Aug. 21; however, the ELFAC will remain open during its regular hours on the weekends leading up to Labor Day (Aug. 26-27 and Sept. 2-3). Severe weather during the season may also result in periodic closures of the facility for the safety of patrons and staff.
Daily rates for the ELFAC are $11; $10 for seniors who are 60 years or older with identification; and free for children who are 2 years old or younger. After 5 p.m. the rate is reduced by $1 per person. The ELFAC also offers two types of passes: a 10-visit pass costs $90 and an unlimited individual season pass costs $95 per person. Tickets and passes are sold at the ELFAC. Passes can also be purchased at the front desk at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road.
“We are very excited for opening day! The East Lansing Family Aquatic Center is a destination for so many community members each summer. We cannot wait to see all their happy faces again this year and hear the sounds of splashing and giggling that make it feel like summer,” East Lansing Parks, Recreation & Arts Director Cathy DeShambo said.
