EAST LANSING, Mich. — Children between the ages of five and 12 years and women are invited to participate in two upcoming safety seminars offered at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC), 819 Abbot Road in June. The cost for both programs is $30 per person.
Kidsafe, the program for children aged five to 12, will be held on Saturday, June 3 from 9:30-11 a.m. The program for women, called Keepsafe, will be held on Wednesday, June 7 from 6-8 p.m. Both programs teach participants how to be aware of, avoid and deal with dangerous situations, including techniques for de-escalating violence and staying safe while home alone.
Kidsafe and Keepsafe classes are taught by Richard McDowell, a nationally recognized authority on personal protection training and an expert in the development of programs and procedures used to teach the impact of violence. McDowell has been teaching personal protection since 1977.
"Our goal is to make a difference in the world by training everyone to be aware, avoid and deal with violence should it occur,” McDowell said.
Community members interested in one or both sessions can register by calling the ELHCC at (517) 333-2580 Ext. 0. For additional questions, McDowell can be reached at (517) 819-6010 or by email at Richard.McDowell@me.com.
