[ARCHIVED] City of East Lansing Holiday Closures & Collections

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Several City of East Lansing offices will be closed in observance of the upcoming Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

East Lansing City Hall, the East Lansing Department of Public Works (DPW) and East Lansing 54B District Court will be closed on Friday, Dec. 23 and Monday, Dec. 26, reopening on Tuesday, Dec. 27. These offices will also be closed Friday, Dec. 30 and Monday, Jan. 2, reopening on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

The East Lansing Public Library (ELPL) will be closed from Friday, Dec. 23-Monday, Dec. 26, reopening on Tuesday, Dec. 27. The ELPL will also be closed from Friday, Dec. 30-Monday, Jan. 2. It will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

The East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC) will be closed Friday, Dec. 23-Monday, Dec. 26, reopening on Tuesday, Dec. 27. ELHCC will be closed Saturday, Dec. 31-Monday, Jan. 2, reopening on Tuesday, Jan. 3. 

The Prime Time Seniors Program will be closed from Friday, Dec. 23-Monday, Jan. 2, reopening on Tuesday, Jan. 3. 

Recycling and Refuse Collection
The holiday closures will not affect refuse and curbside recycling on Friday, Dec. 23 and Friday, Dec. 30; however, there will be no bulk item pickup on Monday, Dec. 26 or Monday, Jan. 2. The City offers no-fee holiday refuse collection from Dec. 13-29. Residents can dispose of extra refuse without the use of yellow City bags. Refuse is collected on residents’ normal collection day. Bags must weigh no more than 40 lbs. The City is also continuing to offer extra curbside recycling days for the holidays: https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/1847/Extra-Holiday-Recycling-Days

Live Christmas tree recycling will begin on Dec. 27 and collection will continue until Jan. 13. Advance phone request and stickers are not required. Please remove bags, decorations, lights and tree stands. Trees taller than 6 feet should be cut in half. Trees can be dropped off at any of the following locations:

  • Patriarche Park; parking lot on Alton Road 
  • Emerson Park; Arbor Drive entrance 
  • Fine Park; parking lot at Winchester Drive 
  • Valley Court Park; south of Valley Court Community Center
  • White Memorial Park; parking lot at Pebblebrook Lane

Free downtown parking will be offered in East Lansing on the following dates over the holidays: Saturday, Dec. 24, Sunday, Dec. 25, Saturday, Dec. 31 and Sunday, Jan. 1. Parking is always free on Sundays, with the exception of some special events, such as the East Lansing Art Festival.
