East Lansing voters are reminded that they can register to vote, apply for and vote an absentee voter ballot (up until 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7) and/or turn in their voted absentee ballot (up until 8 p.m. on Election Day) at either office regardless of their regular polling location. Official ballot drop boxes are also available in the community for East Lansing voters returning voted absentee ballots. These secure drop boxes are locked and checked daily by deputized staff with the East Lansing City Clerk’s Office:

  • East Lansing City Hall (north parking lot), 410 Abbot Road
  • East Lansing Public Library, 950 Abbot Road
  • East Lansing Department of Public Works, 1800 E. State Road
  • MSU-CATA Transportation Center, 592 N. Shaw Lane

All voted absentee ballots must be returned to one of the East Lansing City Clerk’s office locations or a drop box by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

“Those who still wish to register to vote in East Lansing should consider doing so as soon as possible,” East Lansing City Clerk Jennifer Shuster said. “As we get closer to Election Day, we anticipate lines at both office locations. Therefore, taking advantage of our ‘one-stop shop’ options at either location before Election Day is recommended, especially since we are open every single day until then.”

Election Day Reminders
East Lansing’s polls will be open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8 for those who plan to vote in person at their polling location on Election Day. Same-day voter registration will also be offered from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. at both of the East Lansing City Clerk’s office locations on Election Day.

Voters can verify their voter registration status, view their polling location and view their sample ballot at https://mi.gov/vote. For those registering to vote leading up to and on Election Day at the Clerk’s offices, proof of residency must be provided. This proof must include the voter’s name and current address and it can be in electronic format. Acceptable forms include:

  •  Michigan Driver’s license or state ID
  • MSU LiveOn App
  • Current utility bill
  • Bank statement
  • Paycheck or government check
  • Other government document

Those voting in person on Election Day are reminded that they will need to bring a photo ID or sign an affidavit attesting that they are not in possession of a photo ID before voting.
