[ARCHIVED] Great Pumpkin Walk to Bring Trick-or-Treat Fun to Downtown East Lansing on Sunday, Oct. 23

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The annual Great Pumpkin Walk will kick off this year’s Halloween fun in downtown East Lansing on Sunday, Oct. 23.

Community members are invited to bring their children downtown in costume for a family-friendly trick-or-treating event from 1-4 p.m. More than 25 businesses will serve as trick-or-treating stations in the downtown area and parking is free. While there is no official starting point, attendees are encouraged to pick up a free pumpkin from either William B. Sharp Park, located at the corner of Abbot Road and Albert Avenue, or from the 500-block pedestrian alleyway at 139 Bailey Street.

In addition to the trick-or-treating, fun activities planned for this year’s event will include pumpkin painting, a caricature artist, a visit from the HopCat cat, photos with princesses and superheroes from Royal Encounters MSU and live music by indie rock band Pretty Jane & the Magazines from 1:30-3 p.m. in Ann Street Plaza, located at the corner of Albert and M.A.C. avenues. Additionally, the East Lansing Public Library’s Library on the Go mobile pop-up library will be downtown with fun crafts for families as well as books to explore. For the 11th year, the Wild Goose Inn at 512 Albert Ave. will also transform into the Land of Oz from 2-4 p.m.

Community members and motorists are advised that a street closure will be in place for this year’s Great Pumpkin Walk on Albert Avenue, between the Albert Avenue Garage entry/exit (the garage will remain accessible to traffic) and M.A.C. Avenue from approximately noon-5 p.m. The alley between Blue Owl Coffee and El Azteco will also be closed to traffic from approximately noon-5 p.m. for the event. See map (PDF).

Community members can visit for updates on the Great Pumpkin Walk and to learn about additional Halloween events and activities scheduled to take place in East Lansing.

The Great Pumpkin Walk is generously sponsored by the East Lansing Downtown Management Board, Jolly Pumpkin Café and Brewery, Harper’s Restaurant & Brewpub, Playa Bowls, Moosejaw Mountaineering, Risky Studios and 7-Eleven.
