MSU Homecoming Parade to Take Place Friday, Oct. 14

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Community members are invited to line the streets of East Lansing for the 2022 Michigan State University (MSU) Homecoming Parade, which will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14.

The theme of the 2022 MSU Homecoming is “Spartans Bring the Magic” and celebrates Spartans around the world creating real-life magic by making the world a better place. Coach James E. Bibbs is this year’s Homecoming Grand Marshal. Coach Bibbs brought magic to many MSU student-athletes for 28 years as the MSU track and field coach from 1968-1995. During his distinguished career, he coached at every level, leading to 26 All Americans and 52 Big Ten Champions.

The 2022 MSU Homecoming Parade will begin at the intersection of Abbot Road and Burcham Drive, with parade staging at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC). The parade will then travel south on Abbot Road, east on Grand River Avenue, south on Farm Lane onto the MSU campus, ending at the intersection of Farm and Shaw lanes.

Several East Lansing streets and intersections will be closed Friday, Oct. 14 to accommodate the parade. Please note that some of the roadway re-opening times are approximate. Roadways will re-open once the last parade unit has passed through:  

  • Burcham Drive westbound between Abbot Road and Old Hickory Lane from 2:30-7:15 p.m. for high school band and fire truck staging and until the last parade unit has moved past Burcham Drive.
  • Abbot Road from Burcham Drive to Grand River Avenue from 5:30-7:15 p.m. or until the last parade unit has moved off Grand River Avenue.
  • Grand River Avenue between Abbot Road and Farm Lane from 5:30-7:15 p.m. or until the last parade unit has moved off Grand River Avenue.

 The following streets near ELHCC will also be closed Friday, Oct. 14 for parade staging: 

  • Abbot Road between Oxford Road/White Hills Drive and Burcham Drive from 2:30-7 p.m.
  • Centerlawn Avenue from Abbot Road to Forest Street from 2:30-7 p.m.
  • Northlawn Avenue from Abbot Road to Forest Street from 2:30-7 p.m.
  • Evergreen Avenue from Centerlawn Avenue to Northlawn Avenue from 2:30-7 p.m.
  • Forest Street from Centerlawn Avenue to Northlawn Avenue from 2:30-7 p.m.
  • Fern Street from Abbot Road to Evergreen Avenue from 2:30-7 p.m.

City Closures: Please note that the ELHCC will close at noon on Oct. 14 and the parking lot will be used for parade staging. Additionally, the East Lansing Public Library will close at 2 p.m. on Oct. 14.
