EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing Welcomes the World event will be making its return to the East Lansing Public Library (ELPL), 950 Abbot Road, on Friday, Sept. 30 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

International students and families are invited to come meet their neighbors at this special, free event brought to the community by a partnership between the City of East Lansing, Michigan State University and ELPL. The event will feature catered food, family activities offered by the MSU FriendShop and ELPL Maker Studio, community information tables, a photo booth, karaoke, giveaways and more. In addition to the food and activities, there will be a brief program during the event featuring welcoming remarks by East Lansing City Councilmember George Brookover, MSU Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) Director Krista McCallum Beatty and ELPL Director Kristin Shelley.

“We are so happy to be able to bring back the East Lansing Welcomes the World event following two years of being on hold due to the pandemic,” said ELPL Director Kristin Shelley. “We hope that many of the international students, scholars and dependent family members living here in our East Lansing-MSU community will come out for the event to meet their American neighbors in a warm and welcoming setting. All community members are welcome to attend.”

“We are very much looking forward to the return of East Lansing Welcomes the World! It is a wonderful event and a great opportunity for our international students, scholars and their families to engage with the community,” said OISS Director Krista McCallum Beatty. “I hope to see many international students and scholars at the event along with community members.”

The East Lansing Welcomes the World event is free and open to all community members. East Lansing residents are encouraged to attend to help in welcoming their international neighbors. Community members can sign up to serve as a community ambassador during the event by sending an email to Nicole Mosteller at nmostel@cityofeastlansing.com.

For those needing transportation from campus to the event, CATA Bus Route 26 has several stops on campus and in front of ELPL. Visit https://www.cata.org/ for more information.
