EAST LANSING, Mich. – At its June 23 meeting, East Lansing City Council approved an amendment to the Greater Lansing Taxi Authority (GLTA) Partnership Agreement to add Delhi, Delta, Meridian and Lansing townships to the authority. Michigan State University will also be added to the GLTA as a non-voting member of the board.
The amended Partnership Agreement will now move on to the Lansing City Council for its approval.
The GLTA was created by the cities of Lansing and East Lansing in September 2014. The purpose of the GLTA is to engage in a uniform regional regulatory structure for taxi companies and drivers that will provide consistency and ensure that a safe and professional fleet serves Greater Lansing residents and visitors. The expansion of the authority allows for the regulatory structure to encompass the contiguous metro area of Greater Lansing area, serving approximately 270,000 people.
“We are happy to see new community partners added to the Greater Lansing Taxi Authority,” said East Lansing Mayor Nathan Triplett. “Our communities were confronted with a regional challenge and we now have a regional solution with the creation and expansion of the Greater Lansing Taxi Authority.”
“We’re pleased that visitors to our region will have seamless and consistent rules related to taxi service throughout our region through the expansion of the Greater Lansing Taxi Authority,” said Greater Lansing Convention & Visitors Bureau Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Julie Pingston
The GLTA’s Draft Operating Rules and Regulations, governing taxi operations in the region, were approved on June 3, 2015. The draft rules and regulations are available for public review and comment through July 6, 2015: http://www.cityofeastlansing.com/1550/Greater-Lansing-Taxi-Authority.
