EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing Public Library (ELPL) and East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) are partnering once again this year to host the City of East Lansing’s 2022 National Night Out, Touch-a-Truck event on Tuesday, Aug. 2 from 6-8 p.m. at ELPL, 950 Abbot Road.
This popular, annual event offers free fun for the entire family, while also promoting community safety and awareness. This year’s event will feature plenty of vehicles for children to explore, interaction with local police officers and firefighters, police K9s, bike registration, Neighborhood Watch information, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, free snacks and more. Vehicles at the event will include police vehicles from ELPD and the Michigan State University Police Department, a fire engine and ambulance from the East Lansing Fire Department, multiple trucks from the East Lansing Department of Public Works, ELPL’s Library on the Go mobile pop-up library, a College HUNKS Hauling Junk & Moving® vehicle, an H&H Mobil tow truck and more.
The library and the library’s parking lot will close at 5 p.m. to prepare for this all-ages community event. Parking for the event will be available on side streets as well as at All Saints Episcopal Church, 800 Abbot Road, and the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, 855 Grove St. Some limited parking will also be available at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC), 819 Abbot Road; however, there will be Election Day activity at the ELHCC, so the other parking locations are recommended.
The event is free and open to all community members.
