[ARCHIVED] East Lansing’s Annual Flushing of Water Mains to Begin Monday, June 6

watermainflushing

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The City of East Lansing’s annual flushing of water mains will begin Monday, June 6. The flushing will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. each weekday for approximately three weeks.

The 2022 flushing program will take place in the area east of Abbot Road and south of Lake Lansing Road within East Lansing’s City limits. Remaining areas of the City will be included in future flushing activities. Inclement weather or other unusual conditions may alter the project schedule. Any changes will be posted on the City’s website at www.cityofeastlansing.com/watermainflushing.

During the program, residents within or adjacent to the project area may experience a temporary reduction in water pressure and cloudy or rusty colored water. Although the discolored water is safe and does not pose a health concern, residents are encouraged to check their water prior to doing laundry or other home projects in which discolored water could be a problem. Should residents experience discolored water; they are advised to run cold water through a non-aerated faucet, such as a bathtub or outdoor water spigot, for five to ten minutes until the water becomes clear. Residents are also advised to avoid using hot water before checking the cold water to prevent discolored water from entering their hot water heater. Residents can visit www.cityofeastlansing.com/watermainflushing for additional information, including a GIS map that will be updated so that residents can track the water main flushing progress. Residents can contact the East Lansing Department of Public Works at (517) 337-9459 with questions.
