[ARCHIVED] ELPD Releases Additional Footage from April 25 Officer-Involved Shooting

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Today and later this week, the East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) is releasing additional video footage from the April 25 officer-involved shooting at 1350 W. Lake Lansing Road in East Lansing.

“As a part of our commitment to transparency and per a request from the East Lansing Independent Police Oversight Commission, we are releasing all extended video footage captured by the responding officers’ body-worn cameras as well as the ELPD fleet video footage,” said East Lansing Police Chief Kim Johnson. “Due to the hours of video that needed to be redacted and reviewed, some video footage will be released today, and the remaining video footage will be released later this week after the review process is completed.”

The footage being released this week includes full body-worn camera footage from the four officers that responded to the Ingham County 911 dispatch call as well as in-car camera footage from the ELPD fleet vehicles. The video footage starts at the time all four officers responded to the scene, and includes all footage captured by their cameras until they vacated the scene. Body-worn camera footage captured by the sergeant who responded to the scene is also included in the footage being released.

The footage has been redacted to conceal faces, license plates, LEIN information and some audio in accordance with the Michigan Legislature’s Law Enforcement Body-Worn Camera Privacy Act. Videos will be available to view and download via the Video Release Package link at www.cityofeastlansing.com/videorelease.
