EAST LANSING, Mich. – The East Lansing Downtown Management Board (DMB) is pleased to announce that there will be an 89th Anniversary Celebration for Twichell’s Cleaners and Tailors on Friday, June 19 at 11 a.m. in the lobby of the East Lansing Marriott, 300 M.A.C. Ave.
Twichell’s opened its doors in 1926 and is the second oldest business operating in downtown East Lansing today.
“This celebration will honor Twichell’s dedication and service to the East Lansing community,” said East Lansing Downtown Management Board (DMB) Coordinator Amy Schlusler. “Twichell’s has provided services to a long list of patrons, including many local people and even a few famous people. Most notably, in 1992, Twichell’s tailored the suit for then presidential candidate Bill Clinton.”
In addition to the anniversary celebration, Twichell’s is hosting a community floral display that will be on exhibit at the East Lansing Marriott June 19-20 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. The exhibit, titled “Our Journey, Our Community, A Celebration in Flowers,” will feature dozens of Asian floral arrangements.
In an excerpt from a letter to community members, the owners of Twichell’s, Sang Won Lee and Mesung Lee, wrote “When we arrived in this country in 1974, we faced difficulties transitioning to a new country with a different language and culture. In this regard, Twichell’s has been our bridge to this great community and the great institutions of the Greater Lansing area, including Michigan State University.”
Mayor Nathan Triplett, DMB Chairperson Jeff Kusler and Mr. Lee will speak at the event. A reception with light refreshments will immediately follow the program. The public and members of the media are welcome to attend.
