EAST LANSING, Mich. — With more than 9,200 first-year students starting at MSU this fall and many students living for the first time off campus, a new event is set to be hosted in downtown East Lansing this year during MSU Fall Welcome: Moonlight ExtravaGRANDza – A night to eat, shop and explore YOUR new downtown.
MSU students are invited to visit downtown East Lansing next Monday, Aug. 30 from 8 p.m. to midnight for a variety of fun, free activities. Participating downtown East Lansing businesses will line the sidewalks of downtown, offering student deals and giveaways, and there will be a concert from 8-10 p.m. in Ann Street Plaza featuring local DJ Cheeku. Other activities will include Knockerball from 8:30-11:30 p.m. in Valley Court Park, a visit from Zeke the Wonderdog in William B. Sharp Park and a plants and painting activity on the East Lansing Marriott plaza. There will also be an appearance by Sparty and a fun scavenger hunt with prize drawings.
Additionally, the Ingham County Health Department (ICHD) will be onsite in the Bailey Street Parking Lot, 139 Bailey St., administering COVID-19 vaccines from 4-9 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome and students won’t need to bring anything with them unless they are under the age of 18. Individuals under the age of 18 should fill out ICHD’s COVID-19 registration form with their parent’s signature, and will need to bring a picture of their parent’s driver’s license with a signature that matches the one on the form.
Sponsors of the Moonlight ExtravaGRANDza event include the East Lansing Downtown Management Board, the Associated Students of Michigan State University and the MSU Residence Halls Association.
“This exciting, new event will provide a great opportunity for students to get to know their downtown, while also providing our businesses and community with an opportunity to welcome students to East Lansing and showcase all that downtown East Lansing has to offer,” said East Lansing Community & Economic Development Administrator Adam Cummins.
