[ARCHIVED] Deadline for Filing 2020 City of East Lansing Income Tax Returns is June 1

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The deadline for filing 2020 City of East Lansing income tax returns is June 1, 2021.

This deadline applies to all residents and non-resident individuals along with any calendar year businesses. All businesses operating within the City of East Lansing are required to file an income tax return in addition to withholding income taxes from their employees working within the City of East Lansing.

At this time, there is not an e-filing option for filing City of East Lansing income tax returns. Completed forms must be printed and mailed, along with any payments that are due, to:

East Lansing Income Tax Department
P.O. Box 526
Eaton Rapids, MI 48827

Returns may also be placed in the blue Treasurer’s Office drop box located in the north parking lot at East Lansing City Hall, 410 Abbot Road.

For those who need additional time to complete their return, an extension can be filed, which will extend the due date for filing returns to November 1, 2021. An EL-7004 “Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File Certain Returns” form must be submitted to extend the period to file. This extension only extends the time to file the return, not to pay the amount due. If it is anticipated that a payment will be owed on the return, the amount due must be estimated and payment must be submitted along with the extension form by June 1, 2021.  Failure to do so will result in a late fee. This form is available at under the notation “2020 EL-7004 Extension to File – For all Types of Filers” on the forms section of the webpage.
