[ARCHIVED] Opening Day of the East Lansing Farmers Market is Sunday, June 6

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Community members are encouraged to mark their calendars for opening day of the East Lansing Farmers Market’s (ELFM) 2021 season, which will be taking place on Sunday, June 6 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Valley Court Park, 280 Valley Court.

The 2021 market season will run from June 6-Oct. 31 on Sundays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Valley Court Park, 280 Valley Court. Vendors will be announced soon at www.cityofeastlansing.com/farmersmarket.

Several COVID-19 safety measures will be in place again this year, with the goal of making the market as safe as possible for community members, vendors and staff. Guidance from the Michigan Farmers Market Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as epidemic orders from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) were reviewed to help in developing ELFM’s customer guidelines. It’s important for ELFM customers to follow these guidelines to ensure a safer shopping experience for everyone:

  • Customers should not attend the market if they are feeling ill, exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
  • While the latest MDHHS Gatherings and Face Mask Order has eliminated the requirement for individuals to wear masks outdoors, masks are still strongly recommended for non-vaccinated individuals by both the MDHHS and CDC at crowded outdoor events.
  • Customers should maintain six feet of physical distance from other customers.
  • Market customers will be asked to use designated entrances.
  • All food should be consumed outside the market area.
  • Animals will not be permitted at the market (excluding service animals).
  • Customers may bring their own reusable bags, but they should fill the bags themselves.
  • Customers should avoid touching products they are not planning to purchase.
  • Customers should be aware of and abide by all market signs.

Hand sanitizing stations will be available for staff, vendor and customer use, and Double Up Food Bucks, SNAP/Bridge Cards and Senior Project FRESH/Market FRESH coupons will be accepted.

While the Evergreen Avenue Utility Improvements and Albert Avenue Extension Project may be ongoing in June and July, Valley Court Park will remain accessible for motorists and pedestrians via Delta Street and the adjacent sidewalks. The parking around the park will also remain accessible.

Community members can find additional market information throughout the season at www.cityofeastlansing.com/farmersmarket.
