EAST LANSING, Mich. — Community members are advised that the Evergreen Avenue Utility Improvements and Albert Avenue Extension Project is slated to begin on Monday, Feb. 22.
The project will begin with mobilization at the site and the closure of the Evergreen Avenue Parking Lot (behind The Peoples Church of East Lansing). Once the contractor moves to the second phase of the project, Evergreen Avenue will be closed to through traffic. View the Road Closure Phases Map for tentative dates. The project is tentatively scheduled to be completed by July 2021.
The project will include improvements to City infrastructure serving the Oakwood Neighborhood and surrounding area, including watermain and sewer upgrades. Additionally, Evergreen Avenue will be converted into a future walking path for pedestrians, from Valley Court to Albert Avenue; the Evergreen Avenue Parking Lot will be removed and replaced; and Albert Avenue will be realigned and extended to Valley Court. The Albert Avenue extension will include bike lanes and a mid-block crossing. Overall, traffic flow will be improved with the realignment of Albert Avenue and the removal of the section of Evergreen Avenue, ultimately deterring northbound neighborhood cut-through traffic that impacts the neighborhood. Additional updates will be provide throughout the duration of the project at www.cityofeastlansing.com/construction.
