[ARCHIVED] East Lansing DDA Launches “Show EL Your Love” TikTok Challenge

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has launched a second downtown East Lansing TikTok Challenge, titled “Show EL Your Love,” as part of the “Daytime. Nighttime. Anytime. Place Project.”

The “Show EL Your Love” TikTok Challenge invites participants to get creative and film themselves dancing in front of a downtown East Lansing business or landmark. Participants can choose their music, improvise their dance moves and display what they love about East Lansing.

“This is a great opportunity for community members to head downtown; film themselves dancing, singing, or doing a sketch: and show East Lansing their love,” said East Lansing Community Development & Engagement Manager Amy Schlusler-Schmitt.

“We are proud to be continued partners in activating downtown spaces that highlight our business community,” said East Lansing Downtown Management Board Chairperson Chanelle Crouch. “We hope that everyone will consider submitting an entry.”

Participants must upload their video to TikTok and tag the Downtown East Lansing TikTok page in the video’s description by Saturday, March 13 for their video to be considered. The winner of the challenge will receive a $200 Downtown East Lansing eGift Card, courtesy of the DDA.

Interested participants can view an example of the “Show EL Your Love” TikTok challenge on the downtown East Lansing TikTok page: https://www.tiktok.com/@downtownel?lang=en. The video features East Lansing Public School Teachers Jacqueline Carroll and Cody Harrell.

A grading rubric for the TikTok Challenge is also available for interested participants to learn how they can score more points with their video and increase their chances of being awarded the prize. The grading rubric can be found at https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/DocumentCenter/View/10388/Show-EL-Your-Love-TikTok-Dance-Challenge-Rubric-PDF.

Additionally, interested participants are reminded that they are required to wear a face mask over their mouth and nose in all public spaces withing the boundaries of the DDA, both inside businesses and in outdoor public spaces (sidewalks, streets, plazas, etc.). Visit https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1371 to learn more about the mask requirement.
