EAST LANSING, Mich. — The City of East Lansing is requesting the assistance of local architects, developers, residents and property owners in reviewing the current draft of the Avenue Form District form-based code.
The Avenue Form District is proposed for a select area along Michigan and Grand River avenues. If it is adopted, it will replace the current zoning within the proposed boundary with a form-based zoning code.
The Avenue Form District generally represents the recommendations of the 2018 Master Plan to generate quality redevelopment with a pedestrian-oriented, transit-supportive environment in this designated area of East Lansing. An early draft of the document was developed through public input held in 2018 and it was further refined by a subcommittee of the Planning Commission. Additional public input will be held in spring 2021 after the East Lansing Planning Commission has completed its initial review and recommendation to the East Lansing City Council.
The City of East Lansing values input from community member and stakeholders who will be using this document. Input the City is seeking includes, but is not limited to:
- How easy are the regulations to understand?
- Is there conflicting or confusing language or definitions?
- Are there requirements that you feel will impede redevelopment?
- Do you have any other recommendations for improving the document?
