EAST LANSING, Mich. — East Lansing City Manager George Lahanas is pleased to announce the promotion of East Lansing Engineering Administrator Nicole McPherson to the position of Deputy Director of the East Lansing Department of Public Works (DPW). In this new role, McPherson will continue to oversee the daily operations of the DPW Engineering Division, while also taking on expanded leadership responsibilities within the department.

“This promotion is an acknowledgment of McPherson’s integral role with the City, which has included successfully executing and delivering a wide range of significant infrastructure projects,” said DPW Director Scott House. “Nicole is an experienced, intelligent and thoughtful leader, who thinks beyond numbers to the people and the impact that projects will have on the East Lansing community.”

McPherson has served more than four years with the City of East Lansing and has been in the engineering field for more than 20 years. She has experience with a wide variety of projects in the civil engineering discipline. Some of her key past work experiences include the managing and designing of portions of a $300 million combined sewer separation program and designing the rehabilitation of a 1.2 billion gallon-per-day wastewater pump station. She has a Bachelor of Science in Biosystems Engineering from Michigan State University and a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz. McPherson currently resides in DeWitt with her wife and two children, ages five and seven.
