EAST LANSING, Mich. — The City of East Lansing will be conducting fire hydrant flow tests on Monday, June 15. The tests are being conducted in various parts of the City to collect data for input into a water system model to ensure the reliability of the water system.
During the flow tests, some residents may experience cloudy or rusty colored water. Although the discolored water is safe and does not pose a health concern, residents are encouraged to check their water prior to doing laundry or other home projects in which discolored water could present a problem. Should residents experience discolored water, they are advised to run cold water through a non-aerated faucet, such as a bathtub or outdoor water spigot, for five to ten minutes until the water becomes clear.
Residents can contact the East Lansing Department of Public Works at (517) 337-9459 with questions.
