[ARCHIVED] East Lansing City Hall, East Lansing 54B District Court to Re-Open to the Public on Monday, June 15

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Community members are advised that East Lansing City Hall, 410 Abbot Road, and the East Lansing 54B District Court, 101 Linden St., are slated to re-open to the public on Monday, June 15.

While Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has signed Executive Order 2020-110 to rescind the Safer at Home Order, additional time is required for operational changes and accommodations to be put into place in order to ensure a safe re-opening for the public and staff. This week, City and court staff will be steadily integrated back into the workplace; however, remote work and alternating work schedules will continue to be accommodated when possible in order to maintain safe physical distancing in work areas.

When the building re-opens on June 15, hours to the public will be Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. for East Lansing City Hall and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (with a scheduled lunch hour from noon-1 p.m.) for the East Lansing 54B District Court. The building will be closed on Fridays through July 24 to accommodate reduced work hours for identified staff members who have been enrolled in the Unemployment Insurance Agency’s Work Share Program.

When the building re-opens, members of the community will be asked to enter the building through the southwest entrance located adjacent to the Abbot-Linden intersection. All members of the public entering the building will be required to wear a mask (excluding those with a medical reason) and may be required to go through a minimal health screening unless the City is otherwise advised by the Ingham County Health Department or State of Michigan. Directional signage will be in place requiring one-way traffic through certain areas of the building, and floor markings will be in place for physical distancing when forming lines at service windows. Other safety measures that have been implemented include increased facility cleaning, employee health screenings and hand sanitizer stations. All employees will also be wearing masks.

Community members can visit to learn about options for making payments online, by phone or by mail. During this time of continued precautionary measures due to COVID-19, community members are encouraged to continue using online options for doing business when possible for the safety of themselves and others.

The East Lansing Department of Public Works (DPW) and DPW recycling drop-off site will continue to be closed until further notice; however, phone hours will be maintained throughout the month of June from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Regular yard waste and bulk item collection is scheduled to resume on Monday, June 15, which does require advanced requests and City bags/stickers. Until City Hall re-opens, yard waste bags and stickers (no bulk item stickers) can be purchased (cash only) at the East Lansing Farmers Market, which will be open June 7-Oct. 25 on Sundays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Valley Court Park. Bulk item collection payments can be made over the phone at (517) 337-9459. Advanced collection requests can be made during DPW’s scheduled phone hours or online.

The East Lansing Hannah Community Center, East Lansing Prime Time and the East Lansing Public Library (ELPL) will tentatively re-open on Monday, July 13, and ELPL is planning to offer curbside pickup starting June 15 and materials by mail starting June 22. Learn more about ELPL’s re-opening here:

Community members are encouraged to continue to stay connected with the City in order to remain updated on additional operational changes and re-opening plans in the coming weeks and months:
