EAST LANSING, Mich. — To help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), City of East Lansing officials are temporarily closing the City’s playground equipment and some park amenities until further notice.
Closures include all playground equipment, outdoor tennis courts, outdoor basketball courts, park shelters, pavilions and restrooms in East Lansing’s parks. The Northern Tail Dog Park will also remain closed until further notice. Signs will be installed at these areas in the coming days.
The Northern Tier Trail and most parks (excluding the dog park) will remain open to community members for physical activity, which can help reduce stress and improve mental health. Community members are encouraged to use the trail and areas of the parks that remain open to the public in a safe manner by practicing social distancing and staying at least six feet away from others.
Prevention guidance from the National Recreation and Park Association should also be followed:
- Refrain from using parks and trails if you are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 or other illnesses.
- Follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidance on personal hygiene prior to and during use of parks or trails: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prepare/prevention.html.
- While on trails, warn other users of your presence as you pass, and step aside to let others pass.
Please view the latest COVID-19 update from the East Lansing Department of Parks, Recreation & Arts for tentative dates for when the playground equipment and park amenities are expected to re-open.
