[ARCHIVED] City Council Special Meeting to be Held for ELPD Internal Investigation Presentation

EAST LANSING, Mich. — A special meeting of the East Lansing City Council will take place on Thursday, Feb. 27 to provide a public review of the findings of the East Lansing Police Department’s (ELPD) internal investigation into an allegation of excessive force.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. in Courtroom 2 of the East Lansing 54B District Court, 101 Linden St.

The meeting will include a review of ELPD’s internal investigation and the findings of that investigation. The meeting will also include a review of the video footage gathered as a part of the investigation. Following the meeting, a press packet will be distributed, which will include the video footage.

For the sake of transparency, this meeting will be livestreamed via the City’s public meeting portal, but community members are advised that there is profanity in the video footage that will be shared. Due to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) restrictions, the meeting will not be televised.

Background
On Feb. 14, ELPD initiated an internal investigation into an allegation of excessive force during an arrest that was made during the early morning hours of Sunday, Feb. 9 in the parking lot of 7-Eleven in downtown East Lansing. The investigation has included interviewing officers and civilians, and gathering and reviewing all video footage, including footage from in-car cameras, officer-worn body cameras and business security cameras.
