[ARCHIVED] Prime Time Seniors’ Program to Host Free Showing of “Screenagers” Documentary

EAST LANSING, Mich. — As part of its commitment to intergenerational programming, the East Lansing Prime Time Seniors’ Program and its sponsors and partners will host a free showing of the award-winning documentary, “Screenagers,” on Sunday, Jan. 26 from 3-5:30 p.m. at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road.

Parents, grandparents, teens and children (10 and over) are invited to watch the screening about teen use of social media and video games as well as the advent of internet addiction. Immediately following the 67-minute documentary, viewers are invited to join a moderated community conversation. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

The “Screenagers” documentary was born out of the struggles of filmmaker Delaney Ruston, when she discovered her own two children were spending excessive amounts of time on their digital devices. Ruston, who is also a physician, discovered in her research that kids spend an average of 6.5 hours a day on screens, not including screen use in the classroom or for homework. She also discovered in her research that tech time impacts young people’s development and her documentary offers solutions to adults and teens/children to best navigate the digital world and find balance.

While the event is free, community members are encouraged to register for the screening by visiting www.screenagersmovie.com or calling (517) 337-1113.

Sponsors and partners of this special Prime Time event include:

Gold Level - Friends of the East Lansing Seniors’ Program, MSU Federal Credit Union

Silver Level – Independence Village of East Lansing, Robinwood Landing Alzheimer’s Special Care Center

Bronze Level – MediLodge of Okemos, Senior Helpers

Partners – WLNS-TV 6 and Foster Coffee Company
