[ARCHIVED] ELPD Seeks to Identify Two Persons of Interest in Grove Street Homicide Investigation


EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) is seeking to identify two men who were in the 300 block of Grove Street just prior to the homicide in the Grove Street Parking Garage on Thursday, Feb. 5.

Surveillance images are being released of these two persons of interest. They may have important information regarding the shooting.

Anyone with information about the identities of these two men, or anything related to the homicide, is asked to contact Det./Lt. Scott Wriggelsworth at or Det. Dan Brown at (527) 319-6811. Information can also be shared via or 1-877-ELPD-TIP.

At approximately 11:55 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, ELPD responded to a shooting in the Grove Street Parking Garage.

Upon arrival, officers located two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were immediately transported to the hospital. One victim did not survive his injuries.

The deceased was identified last week as Michael Anthony Smith of Dewitt Township. Smith died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds he received during the shooting. The second victim, a 21-year-old Dewitt Township man, received non-life threatening injuries. He was treated and released from the hospital.
