Sports (Youth)

The Department of Parks, Recreation & Arts offers sports leagues and programs for youth. In addition, there are opportunities to get involved in a number of sports clubs and programs, including East Lansing Soccer Club, Track Club, Basketball Club, Girls Youth Softball, Jr. Trojan Football and more. 

MacDonald Middle School Girls Basketball

The City of East Lansing Department of Parks, Recreation and Arts coordinates the MacDonald Middle School Girls Seventh and Eighth Grade Basketball program. Tryouts will be held on Jan. 8 and 9 at MacDonald Middle School. Times to be determined. Registration will not take place until after tryouts have been completed. A 10-game schedule will start on Jan. 22. All participants of middle school sports must have a physical on file (from after April 15, 2023) at the school office prior to competing. The cost for Middle School Basketball is $225.

  • Practices begin the week of Monday, Dec. 4, 2023.
  • The cost is $80 before Nov. 6 and $95 after Nov. 6.
  • Games start Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024.
  • Seven game season with two team practices a week.

Buddy Basketball (Kindergarten-First Grade)

  • There are two sessions.
  • Session 1 is from Jan. 6-27 and the registration deadline is Dec. 15.
  • Session 2 is from Feb. 3-24 and the registration deadline is Jan. 19.
  • The cost is $50/person before the registration deadline and $55/person after the deadline.
