The East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) Honor Guard was created to bestow honor and respect upon fallen members of law enforcement and fire service, honored dignitaries and their immediate families. In addition to this solemn duty, the Honor Guard Unit represents the ELPD at various formal functions throughout the year.
Assignment to the Honor Guard is on a strictly volunteer basis. Members of the unit are held to strict performance standards and often perform their duties without departmental compensation. In fact, much of the training and equipment is acquired through donations made by the community and various veterans' organizations.
The Honor Guard is currently comprised of one police sergeant, five police officers and one departmental bugler.
