The Planning & Zoning Division administers policies to guide quality development in the City of East Lansing. In addition, the division works with applicants and the community on future development by utilizing the various planning tools available through local and state regulations.
Development Review Process
The Development Review Process includes review of applicant proposals and plans by relevant boards/commissions and City departments as it relates to the Zoning Code and various master plans, as well as final approval by the East Lansing City Council.
Residential Rental Restriction Overlay District
The Overlay Ordinance is a tool available to residents to restrict rental licenses in a particular neighborhood. The ordinance calls for 2/3 signatures of the neighborhood in order to bring the issue of rental license restrictions before City Council. Learn more.
