If the due date falls on a weekend or holiday, the due date will be the next business day. Payments need to be in the hands of the City Treasurer by 5 p.m. of the due date or postmarked by the United States Postal Service by the due date to avoid penalties. No postage machine stamps are accepted.
Payment Types
- Automatic Bill Payment: payments can be directly withdrawn from checking or saving accounts by completing the appropriate automatic bill payment enrollment form.
- Cash: only accepted at Treasury window
- Checks: made out to the City of East Lansing
- Credit Card: only accepted through BS&A online payment

Drop Box
The City has a blue drop box located outside of City Hall, 410 Abbot Road, in the parking lot on the north side of the building. Please note that payments must be received by midnight of the due date to be considered on time.
Late Penalty
For taxes that are not paid by the due date, a 3% penalty is added. On March 1 of each year, the City sends all delinquent REAL property taxes to the county. Additional interest and penalty will be assessed. You will need to contact the county for a payoff amount after the March 1 date. The
